Road Safety Scotland Drink and Drug-Driving Campaign Launch

The Drink and Drug-Driving Campaign launches today, aiming to reduce the number of people having a drink or taking drugs before driving. The campaign will run over the festive period to align with and support increased enforcement by Police Scotland.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can destroy lives. They slow down your responses, making a collision more likely, and this can lead to severe injuries or even death.

This festive season, Police Scotland will be ready to catch drink and drug-drivers by carrying out roadside checks – drivers who test positive will be arrested.

The campaign emphasises that it’s easy to catch drink and drug-drivers, as almost half of roadside drug tests are positive. It reminds drivers of the zero-tolerance policy towards drink-driving – the limits in Scotland are so low, driving after just one drink can put you over the limit, so the best approach is none. If caught, drink or drug-driving, even the morning after, you could face a 12-month driving ban, a fine of up to £5,000 and up to six months in prison.

The Drink and Drug-Driving campaign will be live on radio, digital, social, PR and partnership channels. For more information on drink and drug-driving, visit  Home - Road Safety Scotland
