Fitness to Drive Roadshow 2026
The Scottish Government's Fitness to Drive Roadshow 2026 starts tomorrow, visiting towns and cities across Scotland over 76 days.
About the Campaign
The Fitness to Drive campaign encourages drivers aged 60 and over to reflect on their driving skills and take positive steps to remain driving safely for longer. As we get older, deteriorating eyesight, slower reaction times and medications can all affect driving. It is important to make sure that, whenever you get in the car, you are still able to drive safely.
Between 2020 and 2024, on average, one in five (22%) collisions resulting in serious injuries involved drivers aged 60+. With more than 850,000 drivers over 60 on Scotland’s roads, it is vital that, as we get older, we do everything we can to keep driving safely and confidently for as long as possible. The Fitness to Drive campaign addresses a vital road safety issue whilst respecting the independence and freedom that driving represents for many people.
Fitness to Drive Roadshow Events
Starting on Wednesday 29 July, we're taking the Fitness to Drive campaign on the road with a series of events across Scotland. Our dedicated team will visit Scottish towns and cities over the course of 76 days, providing a supportive environment where drivers can learn, and talk about, age-related changes which can affect driving ability, and discover practical steps to maintain their confidence on the road and keep driving safely for longer.

How You Can Support the Campaign in Your Local Area
There are several ways you can help amplify this campaign:
- Help spread awareness about the roadshow events when they visit your area and encourage people to come along and speak to the team to find out more
- Reach out to us, if you are aware of any events in your area or any specific locations that would benefit from a visit by the Fitness to Drive field team, we are open to hearing from you and working together to ensure we get either the field stand, or materials/information to that audience where possible
- Engage with mature drivers and their families in your community about the importance of regular eye examinations, driving reviews, and honest conversations about driving abilities, we would be happy to support you in that by providing materials where available
- Share content from Road Safety Scotland's social media channels (X and Facebook) and promote local roadshow event dates
- Direct your audiences to the campaign website
Thank you for your continued support, it is very much appreciated.
