20mph Communicator Toolkit Launch
The Scottish Government, in collaboration with Transport Scotland and Road Safety Scotland, have released a toolkit for communicators in local authorities and supporting organisations to use when implementing 20mph speed limits in their local area.
Benefits of 20mph
The introduction of 20mph restrictions contributes to the Scottish Government's commitment to creating a healthier, greener and safer Scotland. The benefits of lowering the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph include:
- A reduction in the severity of and total number of road collisions.
- Creating safer spaces for all road users to enjoy.
- Encouraging a change in the way we travel for those shorter every day journeys to promote healthier lifestyles.
- Improving our communities, by lowering speeds in the places we live and grow.

Communicator Toolkit
The 20mph Communicator Toolkit contains campaign materials that can be used to increase awareness of the introduction of the reduced speed limit and encourage drivers to comply by highlighting the possibly fatal difference between hitting a pedestrian at 30mph and 20mph. All materials include a call to action of visiting roadsafety.scot for more information.
The toolkit has been developed to help you communicate the campaign messages to your audiences and contains the following:
- Campaign key messages
- Latest 20mph road safety statistics
- A4 poster
- A customisable A4 poster
- Social media images in all relevant sizes
- Social animation
