School Attendance Campaign Launch

The Parent Club ‘School Attendance’ activity launches this week. School absenteeism is a significant issue and a growing problem across Scotland’s schools.

Over the last several years there has been an increase in persistent absences in schools. Children and young people have experienced periods of significant challenge, including a global pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis which is causing difficulty for families across the country. There’s no doubt this has had a major impact on schooling.

Targeted at parents and carers of children in P5-S4 across Scotland, the campaign, aims to engage with parents and carers to:

  • Build belief that school attendance is an important issue to the Scottish Government, Education Scotland, Local Authorities, schools, parents and children
  • Improve parent and carers understanding of, and confidence in, engaging with their child’s school to help support their child to address any concerns or issues
  • Make parents and carers aware of and engage with the advice on Parent Club that is related to helping and supporting their child to attend school, including issues that may be impacting school attendance such as relationships, anxiety etc.

The campaign offers advice and support to encourage parents to take the steps necessary towards improving their child’s attendance at school.

Our partners play a vital role in helping the Scottish Government reach priority parental audiences. As a trusted voice and resource for your service-users, you can really help build awareness of Parent Club and the support it offers.
